William Jamal Wilkinson, 36, was arrested after Nassau County Police responded to a suspicious occurrence at the Mobil Gas Station on Glen Cove Road around 1:27 p.m., Tuesday, May 28, in Roslyn Heights, said the Nassau County Police.

According to detectives, when officers arrived on the scene they were informed by a witness who said they saw a woman in the front passenger seat of a black 2005 Ford Taurus holding a sign that read “Please call 911, CALL 911," police said.

An investigation found that Wilkinson had forced the woman and her three male children, ages 13, and two 3-year-olds into his vehicle and refused to let them out, police said.

Wilkinson was placed under arrest without incident and charged with four counts of unlawful imprisonment, two counts of endangering the welfare of incompetent physically disabled person, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of marijuana.

He will be arraigned on Wednesday, May 29, at First District Court, in Hempstead.
